The University of Balamand has established itself as the leading institution of higher learning in north Lebanon, and is emerging rapidly as an educational and cultural focus on both Lebanon and the Middle East. The goal of the master plan is to allow for planned growth as the University expands over the next twenty years.
The key metaphor for the core of the campus is the academic village: a concentration of new buildings to be built around the early structures on the campus that will create a focus of energy and make inevitable the frequent interaction of faculty and students from the University’s various disciplines. The inspiration for this approach is the Lebanese village, the basis for community and a durable sense of belonging.
